Mostar, 31.07.2004. - Clanovi Rotary kluba Mostar imali
upornost, znanje, strucnost i savladavanje niza golemih
problema, odlucili su da zadovoljstvo i radost podijele i sa
svojim prijateljima rotarijancima, na prigodnom
rotary-druženju. Tako su se ovog dana u Mostaru okupili
predstavnici bosanskohercegovackih rotary klubova i dragi gosti
iz RC Split.

NEWS RELEASE
Rotary
Members of All Ethnic Backgrounds Work Together to
Rebuild the Historic Mostar Bridge
MOSTAR, Bosnia-Herzegovina, 23 July 2004 - Members of the Rotary Club
Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina, together with other Mostar
enthusiasts had initiated the idea of rebuilding the historic
Mostar Bridge. The 21 members of this Rotary Club of Mostar
represent a diverse group of prominent business and professional
leaders - Bosniaks, Bosnian Croats and Bosnian Serbs - the group
that was instrumental in the overall project preparation,
implementation and the organization of the bridge opening
ceremony. Rotarians like most of other Bosnia and Herzegovina
citizens consider the bridge opening as a symbol of the cities'
reunification efforts, and a symbol of unity for the city's
different ethnic groups, i.e. as the national symbol of peace
and unity. The ceremony will take place on July 23.
After the idea of the rebuilding the bridge won wide approval and the
financial support of many governments and international
organizations Rotary members took the lead in the rebuilding
related effort. Rusmir Cisic, an architect who served as head of
the Bridge Reconstruction Unit, and Tomislav Rozic, a civil
engineer, who was the deputy head of the Bridge Reconstruction
Unit, are both active members of the local Rotary Club Mostar.
Other Rotary members include Professor Amir Pasic, an architect
and Marin Raspudic, the Mostar Airport Director. Both are chief
organizers of the opening ceremony.
In addition to the bridge rebuilding Mostar Rotarians are involved in the
implementation of many projects within Mostar region of which is
the most relevant Rotary project Education for Peace (EFP).
Education for Peace Project aims to educate new generations of
students to become peacemakers and to work toward peace and has
the participation of more than 400 teachers and staff and 6,000
students and parents. The success of the program in Mostar has
resulted in the government plan to expand the program to all
schools in the country. During the opening ceremony, about 100
students from the two schools that are supported by Rotary's
Education for Peace Project will work as volunteers. They are of
both Bosniak and Croat backgrounds.

Raspudic, Chairman and Deputy Chairman for Mostar Bridge
opening ceremony. Marin Raspudic is the Mostar Rotary Club
President for the year 2003-04.
